This page is archived from February/March 2007, when we lost long-time member William "Billy" Hamilton to cancer.

Chief of Department regrets to announce the passing of Captain William “Billy” Hamilton Engine Company 3. Billy began his career in the fire service with the Groton Fire Department in 1970 where he earned the rank of Lieutenant. In 1985 Billy moved to Townsend and joined the Townsend Fire Department.

In 1986 Billy became the founding President of the Townsend Firefighters Association. Billy was recently promoted to the rank of Captain and named the department's 2007 Firefighter of the Year.

Calling Hours will be Friday, March 9, 2007 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Union Congregational Church 218 Main Street (Rt. 119), Groton. [Map]

Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 10th 11:00 at the Groton-Dunstable Middle School South, Center for the Performing Arts, 344 Main Street (Rt. 119), Groton. [Map]

Departments attending the calling hours are requested to assemble at the Groton-Dunstable Middle School South at 6 p.m. Those attending the Funeral Services are requested to assemble at the Deluxe Corporation, 500 Main Street (Rt. 119), Groton no later than 9:30 a.m. [Map]

Transportation will be provided for both services.

Any Department that will be sending a delegation to either the Calling Hours or the Funeral Services are requested to contact Townsend Fire-EMS Headquarters at 978-597-8150.
