Emergency Medical Services Division
The EMS Division of the Townsend Fire-EMS Department
is the former Townsend Municipal Ambulance Service, which was initially
constituted in 1980.
The EMS Division provides 24-hour, on-call ambulance coverage to the town,
with in-station coverage during the weekdays. The EMS Division operates
two transporting ambulances, the newest of which is also licensed at the
paramedic level.
The EMS Division not only serves the Town of Townsend,
but also has agreements in place to provide paramedic-level coverage to
the towns of Ashby, Groton, Lunenburg and Pepperell using Medic-1. Staffed 24 hours a day, every day, usually with two paramedics, Medic-1
is a 2003 Ford Expedition outfitted with special cabinetry, seating for
four and all of the medical equipment found in a regular paramedic ambulance.
