Reprinted from the December 23rd, 2006 edition of Trilogy, with
their gracious permission:
The Staff of the Trilogy spent some time
this year trying to pick someone who we thought deserved our “Citizen
of the Year” award for 2006.
We had a list of potential candidates that we mulled over for quite a while
before we made our final choice for this year.
A few of the candidates who made our
short list included some notable people from the year 2006, such as Senator
Robert Antonioni for his work and involvement at the State level on Public
Health issues such as depression and for his work as Chair of the Education
Committee, and Joe Bilotta of Lunenburg for his years of service and commitment
to the town of Lunenburg.
In the end
we chose a group of individuals who we felt deserved recognition for not
only all the work they did over the course of the year that they were expected
to do, but they also had to put in extra time and effort to get their respective
divisions ready and positioned to merge together under the same roof as a
single new department; and as an extra burden they had to take the time to
fend off the lies and attacks of their critics and enemies by spending work
and personal time looking up old records, attending BOS meetings where they
were harassed for no other apparent reason other than several employees and
elected officials of the Town of Townsend just don’t
like them.
For
the second year in a row we chose someone in the Fire Services of the Town
of Townsend as our Citizens of the Year because they managed, against many
odds, to unite as a combined Fire/EMS Department without lowering themselves
to the same level as those who choose to harass and attack them on an almost
daily basis.
We at the Trilogy salute the men and women of the Townsend
Fire Department and the Townsend Emergency Medical Services Departments for
becoming the new Townsend Fire/EMS Department. Congratulations to you all,
and thank you for being there when we need you the most.

The following is a reprint of the editorial
from the January 2006 issue of the Trilogy Newspaper:
In My Humble Opinion
By Dave Funaiole
This one will be short, sweet, and to the point. If you
read Chief Donahue’s letter here, then you know
that the Fire Department is in need of help.
The Town of Townsend has put off purchasing necessities
for quite some time now because of financial short-falls and for other reasons
not related to money; and whether you have a beef against the Fire Department,
or any of its personnel, or its former Chiefs, it is time to put aside petty
politics and do the right thing for the TOWN - that’s you
and me and everyone else in Townsend.
While I am sure the men and women of the Townsend Fire-EMS
Department are glad to receive new vehicles and equipment, it is not like
they are a special interest group that is out for themselves - they ask
for the things they need to respond to a fire at someone’s house - they
ask for things to save lives during an EMS call - they ask for the things
that you and I need when you and I get into more trouble than we can handle
on our own.
We cut off or own noses to spite our own face at times
here in Townsend, but this is one occasion where we need to do the right
thing to protect ourselves - Please turn out to vote on January 24th, and
Please vote yes for the truck that they are requesting, and Please encourage
your friends and neighbors to do so also.

14 December 2005
The following is a reprint from the 09 December 2005 issue of the Trilogy Newspaper:
Townsend - Fire Chief William Donahue would like to thank all the citizens who turned out for the Town Meeting last week and voted to purchase much needed new equipment for the medical response vehicles, a new ambulance, and the affirmative vote to put the purchase of a new fire truck on the ballot in the special election to be held on January 24th.
"I really hope the voters turn out and support the plan to buy a new truck; we really need this new vehicle, rather than trying to limp along with borrowed or outdated trucks that need more repairs than we can afford to pay for right now," stated Donahue. The Chief said he was more than pleased by the results of the Town Meeting last week and is encouraged by what he heard from people after the meeting.

The Townsend Fire-EMS Department today welcomes Lieutenant William Donahue of the West
Newbury Fire Department as our 17th Chief of Department, and the first for the combined Townsend Fire-EMS. The members of Townsend Fire-EMS are excited to begin this new chapter of our Department's history under Chief Donahue.
May 2005 Townsend Fire-EMS has moved its headquarters. No longer operating
out of the old bank building on Main Street and Town Hall, all Department
offices are now located at 13 Elm Street. We are located in the building
behind the old Power Plant Gym, the public entrance is the new door in
the middle of the building with the window in it.
All phone numbers formerly used by both the Fire and
Ambulance Departments are still active. The -8150 number listed at the
top of the page is now the main number for all NON-EMERGENCY business.
For any EMERGENCIES, you should still dial 9-1-1 in Townsend.
