Emergency Medical Services

Townsend Fire and EMS provides emergency medical transport Services 24 hours a day 7 days a week operating at the “Advanced Life Support Level”. Please always Dial 911 in case of Emergency.

The department is proud to provide progressive emergency medical services at the paramedic level 24/7 to best serve the residents of our community. The Department also provides paramedic intercept and back up medical transport services to surrounding communities by request. We partner with UMASS Memorial Health Alliance Hospital for medical control affiliation and clinical over site.

Our Capabilities:

  • Emergency Medical Transport of Adult and Pediatrics:
    • Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support
    • Medical Care and Transports
    • Trauma Care and Transports
    • Mental Health Transports
    • Medical care provided in accordance with the MA State Wide Treatment Protocols
    • Cardiac Monitoring
    • Medication Administration
    • Power Loading Stretchers

The Department routinely provides transport to the following area hospitals:

  • Health Alliance Leominster Hospital (General Hospital)
  • Saint Josephs Hospital (STEMI Center and Labor and Delivery)
  • Southern New Hampshire Medical Center (Level 3 Trauma, Labor and Delivery and STEMI Center)

The Department provides transport to the following hospitals only under special circumstances that may or may not require additional online medical control approval depending on the clinical situation:

  • UMASS University Medical Center (Level 1 Trauma Adult Pediatric and STEMI Center)
  • UMASS Medical Center Memorial Campus (Labor and Delivery)
  • Emerson Hospital (Labor and Delivery)
  • Heywood Hospital (General Hospital)

The department participates in the following additional optional treatments and medications In accordance with State Wide Treatment Protocols and Medical Director Options:

  • Automatic transport ventilators
  • Ultrasound
  • Video laryngoscopy
  • IV medication pumps
  • BiPap (Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation)
  • Emergency surgical airways
  • Lucas Chest Compression Device
  • Optional medications in addition to the minimum required by the Office of Emergency Medical Services including, TXA, Acetaminophen IV , Tetracaine, Lidocaine jelly, Ketamine, IV nitroglycerin, norepinephrine and coming soon (IV antibiotics).

Paramedic Intercept Services:

The Department can provides intercepts with Basic Life Support ambulance services in the area to provide our advanced capabilities, lifesaving treatments as well as comfort care to residents in our sounding communities.

Medical Control:

The Townsend Fire and EMS Department partners with UMASS Memorial Health for medical control affiliation and physician oversight.

Open Air Burning Season is open from January 15th to May 1st

In order to burn brush you must obtain a open air burning permit. Permits can be obtained online.
